About Tara Brown

The Formative Years

Born and raised, 6th generation Coloradoan. My ancestors found a lovely place to live – a river valley with mountain views. I grew up in Palisade, a community in Western Colorado. Here I was born, living in the same house until I left for college. Not until leaving have I come to appreciate the beauty and adventure in my hometown, not to mention tree-ripe peaches all summer. I have one brother, Chad, who is 16 months older and has always been a big brother. We grew up creating adventures and memories playing in the irrigation ditches, making fox holes in the sandbox and climbing trees. I have two awesome parents that continue to love me so well, and most importantly, taught me to love the Lord.

The College Years

Growing up I longed to be in college and I took full advantage by staying there for 7 1/2 years. After searching for what I did want to be – I got on the track to become an Occupational Therapist. Many of you may not know what this is – and I will not take the paragraph it would take to explain it! But I love my job – helping people live a more satisfying life.

College Adventures

The Boy

At the point I decide not to date until I made it out of grad school, I met a guy named Aaron Brown. The short of the story is that he knocked my socks off and swept me off my feet. We were married in 2003 and we have been enjoying life together ever since.

Zambia, Africa

Summer of 2002, I was able to spend a month in Zambia working with a couple Christian organizations. The first 10 days were spent with Campus Crusade showing Jesus Films and teaching the word of God. The last 20 days were spent at an infant orphanage helping with care giving, as well as learning about the culture and hardships of the people of Zambia. This trip left a print on my heart that had changed me in ways that are quite difficult to explain.

New Zealand

I had the great opportunity to spend a semester in New Zealand. I traveled as much as possible, spending 30 days on a bus touring all around the country, weekend trips to cities near Christchurch, a two week spring break where Aaron came and proposed to me and 10 days in Fiji by myself (a scary adventure). I would repeat this 6 months over and over if I could.

The Now

I started my career as a traveling Occupational Therapist. I have worked in 4 different cities in the last couple of years. First is Olympia, WA as a home health therapist for older adults, next in Maryland at Johns Hopkins, and then in Kona, HI and Maui for 3 semesters to work in the school district with children. Now we are ready to be near our families and have our own little family.

After having a baby, I decided to start a business from home. I make kids hats and fleece beanies for my company Rocky Mountain Wacky Warmers.
